Down Grange Meadow

Our largest site, Down Grange Meadow was a literally a “Brown Field” Site when the group took over the management in 2006.

The Meadow is 16 acres (6.5 hectares) in extent and comprises 10 acres (4 hectares) of grassland plus 6 acres (2.5 hectares) of woodland, spinney and plantation.

Underlying the site is a cap of clay with flints over a bedrock of chalk. The chalk is quite close the surface on the southern boundary. In fact in the southern corner at the junction of Homesteads and Winchester Roads, there is an old disused Marl Pit.
